Hear from our clients
In 1953, Thomas Burke established Burke & Associates Lawyers in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. Back then, we were a small firm with a general practice. We added family law services when Thomas’s son Tony took over in 1989.
By 2014, there were four Directors, and we had moved to our current office at 1127 High Street, Armadale in Melbourne, Victoria.
In 2014 Kristy Muhlhan was one of those appointed Directors. With significant property and development law expertise, she later earned an Accredited Specialisation in this area in 2021.
Two years after Kristy in 2016, Meghan Warren was appointed a Director, bringing business and dispute qualifications, and a unique medical and health industry expertise.
By this time, it was clear that we’d established ourselves as an industry leader while remaining true to our suburban heritage. However, we were also ready to transition from our sole practice roots to a larger firm with infrastructure and divisions.
Rosy Dean (ne Rosy Dean) joined the Directorship in 2019. Her dispute experience helped us to entrench the Commercial Disputes Division. Separately, her VCAT appointed administration work continues to support our clients and their families.
But of course, we’ve encountered some bumps along the way.
In 2020 and 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic Victoria. However, with foresight and an understanding of technology and the future of office work, we were ready to switch to work-from-home mode immediately. This transition was seamless for staff and clients.
We also decided to focus only on our key practice areas of commercial law, property and development, litigation and dispute resolution, and wills and estates. Our clients benefited from our increased time, attention and valuable conversations within our key practice areas.
In 2023 we rebranded as Burke Lawyers. For more than 70 years, we’ve enjoyed stability, a significant accomplishment for any law firm. We continue to support employee career aspirations and growth, with staff wellbeing a priority.
Burke Lawyers now has a team of close to 20. We’re currently led by a visionary all-female Directorship who set daily examples of thought leadership, care, flexibility, and progressive management.
